I am definitely that! :) We had a dentist appointment on Thursday (our 6 month check up). There was one tooth that had been hurting since they had put a filling in it last time. They fixed it (thinking it was a leaky filling). And we'll see from there.
But that's not why I am a worry wart. They had told me last check up that I needed to take out my wisdom teeth...... I didn't listen (or "forgot"). This time they said I really do need to do it because there is cavity in one of the 2 that have grown in a little. Yay! :) ~sarcasm~ So I made an appointment for Thursday for a consultation and the panel x ray. And to talk to them about my REAL WORRY!! (Finally got to it..)
I have a really hard time breathing through my nose for more than a minute at a time. I am going to get put under and all that jazz. But I'm freaking out about getting operated on in my mouth and not being able to breathe through my nose. I hope that this dentist guy has had this problem before because my regular dentist had some issues with my no breathing through my nose when talking to me about the tooth that had the leaky filling. It was going to be a root canal and I told him about my not being about to breathe and he was like well that poses a problem.
So the main reason of writing this.. Anyone else have this problem???? And have had their wisdom teeth removed?????
Also, the only time Adam can get time off in the next 2-3 months on a weekend (cause I have weekends off..) is for my birthday that he already has off. every other weekend is taken by someone else. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me I am most likely (still depends on the surgeon's schedule) getting it done on the 24th.. Woohoooooo..

I got mine done lickety split. the actual operation was fine. The only problem? The pain meds made me very sick.
Logan has his done. Apparently being put under is only an option. His Dr. said the healing time is less if you are awake and get local anesthetic. But you can't be a wuss about it. You will hear things- cracking and stuff. So if you go that way, it's more of a mental issue than physical.
Good luck!
Also, it isn't normal to have a hard time breathing out of your nose- have you been checked for a deviated septum? (I know, Dr. Ashley- I take after my mom!)
I have to have my wisdom teeth out, too...I just havent gone to the dentist in a few years, so I don't know for sure WHEN!! lol..but I totally want to be put under if I do have them taken out...I don't know if I could stand it! Surely they have come across people with breathing problems before! And Dr Ashley is right, you might want to go to an Ear, Nose and Throat dr if it gets too horribly bad! :)
Good luck with your teeth!!
I was just talking to Sarah about this. I actually got mine done without going under. I was done in like 5-10 minutes. It was really quick. It was only hard for one tooth because it was embedded in my gums but other than that, it was easier than a cavity or root canal because I was in and out. I was eating stuff that night;) Good luck!
I had mine out last May and to be completely honest... it sucked. I got put under too (love anesthesia) and when they woke me up I felt like my tongue was swollen and I gagged all over the place. This was cause the drugs hadn't worn off yet, but really within a matter of minutes, my tongue was alive and I could breathe. Luckily I have a husband who is so so wonderful and let me just lie around for a couple days after. I was in a lot of pain!!! The drugs they gave me were awesome (lortab, bless you:) ) and thats why I was sleeping all the time for a couple days. I think in your situation you just need to do some pros and cons with your doctor about being put under and not. But it's a really fast surgery and you'll be surprised how much better your mouth feels after the sores are healed. Oh and did I mention that the drugs are great?! :) Good luck Jen!!
I had my wisdom teeth removed when I was 14 or 15. I was knocked completely out – but I think I had to be because all 4 of them were imbedded and they had to break each one in four pieces before removing. When I woke up – my entire left side of my face was swollen – all the way down to my neck. You couldn’t tell I had a jaw-bone! I don’t remember the pain being that bad, but I couldn’t eat anything but soft foods for what seemed like a week. I also had a sick stomach for about a day before I figured out that it was the pain meds that were making my stomach hurt. I stopped taking them and then felt fine.
This didn’t answer your question about not being able to breathe – but I think that if you’re put under – you should be fine. An anesthesiologist will watch you and make sure all is okay.
Good luck – and have fun! (And – if you do swell up – you MUST post a picture). :-)
