*Be very accurate
- Like with Apartment numbers make sure there's the # sign even if its a letter apartment. Also if the letter is N, S, E or W Please make the distinction between its the apt rather than the direction of a street.
*Always have a zip code.
- There's a better chance of it going to the correct home. We can send it without but its easier.
*Write BIG and CLEAR
- The computers that scan the letters always add stuff to the image so with big and clear letters it is easier to know what to key.
*Write in Ball Point Pen - No sharpies
- The computers seem to go right through marker or sharpie and make it unreadable.
*Write the Receiver Address in the right spot
- Please don't right it close to the bottom. The sticker that the computer puts on there ("the barcode") will go over the address and won't be readable.
*Don't write your address on the back flap.
- It makes it easier for us if it gets returned - less time the image of the mail piece is in the system, the faster it gets back to you.
*If you get mail for someone else at your house:
- We won't except a written RTS or Return to Sender (we reject them)
- If you know the FOWARDING address then we can except a handwritten address.
*If the address you are sending it to has a South, North, East, West at the end of the street address, make sure it is written to ensure a timely accurate delivery.
*We are expecting large mail "volumes" by Dec. 6th for Christmas mail. So try to get it out early to make sure it gets to everyone on time!
Haha.. Since I work there and type mail pieces for 6 hours straight, thought I'd help you guys out with the things I've learned. Hope it helps!! :) I'll add more if I remember more.. :)

No seriously, thanks! I am the Sharpie moron... sorry. :) I'm just so addicted to the dang Sharpie!
No, not making fun at all!! Serious! This is great info!
Good to know. I don't want to tell you this, but I am Queen of the Sharpies...and I thought I was doing all of you a favor by writing in big black sharpie... sorry!
You really should write a book or something...you must have seen a lot of poorly addressed mail!
I think I am going to copy paste this to a word document so I have it always!!
Thanks for that info! I always use Sharpies – guess I’ll stop now. (I am kinda bummed though because I LOVE my sharpies – I have the “giant, all colors you can think of kit”). :-(
Those ARE great tips! I too always use a sharpie! Thanks for the insider scoop :)
